Sixteen Candles (1984)
While the so-called “Brat Pack” films created by John Hughes are warmly remembered by people who were teens in the 1980s, Sixteen Candles could not be filmed today without significant modifications. To begin with, the picture is full of attitudes about sexuality that might pass muster with current sensibilities. The most important improvement would have to be the entire makeover of the character Long Duk Dong. Despite Gedde Watanabe’s strong performance, the Japanese exchange student role is one of the most offensive Asian caricatures ever committed to film.

Slap Shot (1977)
Slap Shot is frequently ranked as one of the most memorable sports films. Owing to its realistic depiction of hockey, iconic characters such as the Hansen Brothers (shown), and a game-changing performance by Paul Newman. On the other hand, the picture may have been a little too realistic for its own good. Blood, violence, and so-called “blue” language (including homophobic insults) would simply not be tolerated today.
