One of the places in Africa that is the most visited is South Africa. Tourists still go there every day despite the growing issues of drought and crime. The locals do not really mind having visitors, but they do not appreciate the fact that property prices in Cape Town are rising as more and more tourists become interested in the city. The residents can now barely afford to live in the capital.

Portugal has experienced a large amount of over-tourism, particularly Lisbon. While tourism is bringing the capital city significant financial benefit, it has come at the expense of locals. Many Portuguese have difficulty finding affordable housing in the city center since a lot of the accommodations are made available for tourists on short term rental websites. Even worse, ancient houses are posted to be renovated by foreign investors and rented out to visitors.
