The tiger’s new caretakers named him Tyson and started discovering his little quirks. Watching the tiger interact with grass was definitely exciting. Dr. Mikaela Vetters said that the first time the animal got onto the grass, it looked like Tyson was “walking on hot sand.” Right away, it was apparent that the tiger had never been on grass and had missed out on experiences that other animals have since it was kept hidden.

Not Easy Pets

Although tigers are legal in Texas, Houston does not allow keeping them as pets for different reasons. One obvious reason is that not everybody knows how to look after tigers. What happened in this story is proof of that. When tigers are young, they are small and can make wonderful pets like cats or dogs. However, as they grow larger, taking care of them becomes harder. They need more specialized treatment, which many people aren’t ready to give.
