The scammer dropped the call after this. “She thought she was saving $1,800 by doing that. The way he explained it, was she would get the $200 paid back,” he explained in an interview. The woman then thanked Deputy Garrison. He just saved her from a con. It was worth it even though she would get a speeding ticket in return!

It was a good thing that Deputy Garrison was familiar with the scam that had been going on. He had seen many reports about these phone scams in the past. Sadly, there was not a lot of things that they could do to apprehend the scammer. There was a good chance that he used a disposable phone number and lived in a different country. However, the police officer could still do something about this.
