Mark did not expect what the vet had to say about the puppies. Apparently, they had been on the wrong track. They were no puppies! They were not even dogs. Mark was shocked when he heard this. If they were not dogs, what could they possibly be?

The Explanation
The vet then told Mark that the puppies were actually baby foxes! In particular, they were red foxes. The vet explained that fox cubs and pups tend to look alike when they are newborns. Red foxes, mind you, are not actually red all of the time.
