What Wasn’t Meant To Be Seen Was Captured By These Drones

Our perspective of the world has changed since the invention of drones. We’ve been able to fly, visit dangerous locations, and observe things from afar that would have been invisible before. We’ve compiled a list of some of the strangest things drones have seen. Some of these things are frightening, while others are perplexing. Take a look at these incredible sightings that were only possible thanks to drones!

A house explodes

Drones are sometimes used to capture things that would otherwise be off-limits to the public. This is the situation depicted in the image below. The local authorities quickly quarantined this house, which had exploded for no apparent reason. While police and firefighters aren’t sure what caused the house to crumble, they do have some theories.

A House Explodes

A House Explodes

They believe the explosion was caused by the slow accumulation of gas from an electric burner or other household appliance. Once the house has been filled with enough fuel, a simple ignition from a gas stove or other flamed entity would set the house on fire. Unfortunately, that’s most likely what happened here, and it’s unfortunate.

The aftermath of war

People sometimes fly their drones in places where they shouldn’t be. In this case, an unwise individual had taken it to a war-torn region of Syria. His drone realized the full extent of the damage when it took to the air. Rubble buildings, shattered walls, and distant satellites are all signs of a long-abandoned town.

The Aftermath Of War

The Aftermath Of War

While flying your drone into a war zone isn’t exactly a good idea (and it’s probably illegal), it does reveal the scope of the conflict. While the images do not capture the terror felt by those present during the attacks, they show the severity of the damage.

A family of elephants

Many people are surprised to learn that elephants are among the most dangerous mammals on the planet. Due to their massive size, they are more than capable of annihilating someone with a single step of their foot. We’ve got a bunch of them here. Even if they appear to be benign, appearances can be deceiving.

A Family Of Elephants

A Family Of Elephants

We’re joking, of course. These elephants, cut off from the surrounding tribes, are most likely just looking for food. Finding watering holes in the African Savannah can be a time-consuming task. This drone was able to capture them on their journey, capturing both mothers and fathers, as well as babies. Before we move on to some more terrifying photos, there’s a brief intermission of happy elephants.

Gazelles in flight

Certain animals are fearful by nature. This is especially true when it comes to gazelles. The majority of them will flee before posing for a selfie if they are spotted in the wild. Capturing the tetrapedal beasts can be difficult due to their terrifying appearance. When using a drone, however, this is not the case.

Gazelles In Flight

Gazelles In Flight

The flying machines make an obnoxious loud humming noise, but it appears less intrusive than walking. Perhaps this is due to the gazelles’ lack of understanding of the situation. On the other hand, it could be because they’re in the air. Whatever it is, it doesn’t appear to be as dangerous as people underground. If you want to get some great shots of them, you might want to consider using a drone.

Marriage proposal from a drone

Thanks to drone technology, we have a romantic moment captured from above. This bachelor had dropped to one knee and flown his drone overhead to capture the proposal in the act. But, instead, he wanted to capture the sacred request with long-lasting, hands-free footage. The tops of people’s heads, as they say, “I do,” have a captivating quality to them. And, of course, there’s the breathtaking view.

Marriage Proposal From A Drone

Marriage Proposal From A Drone

Is it possible that the drone craze has gone too far? Rather than having friends photograph the ritual, the future Mr. and Mrs. are accompanied by an obtrusive propeller-driven robot photographer. We’ll just have to accept our mechanical hovering friends because romance has never been so futuristic. We’re just relieved he didn’t use a selfie stick.

A house on rocky terrain

Most people value their privacy. Some people go to extremes, living underground in bunkers or far-flung locations such as the Montana wilderness. They do, however, occasionally relocate their homes to dangerous rocky outcroppings where no one can disturb them.

A House On Rocky Terrain

A House On Rocky Terrain

Perched atop Katskhi Pillar in Western Georgia (just below the Russian border), this perilous residence is a whopping 140 feet tall. If you’re like us, you’re probably curious about how they constructed the house so neatly atop this rock. They did so, however, brick by brick. The monastery is maintained by a lone monk. And, yes, we understand what you’re asking: he can descend.

A friendly giant

In a field behind some houses, drone footage captured a strange granite giant. Jimmy Boyle, a convicted murderer, and felon appear to have created the giant. The structure, which is now a playground for children, is located in Edinburgh, Scotland. However, over time, the object has deteriorated.

A Friendly Giant

A Friendly Giant

The 100-foot-long statue has been removed from the ground on which it previously stood due to this and a few other factors (such as the fact that it blocks a developing flood prevention scheme). The only part of this once graceful giant that will remain in his foot. This is unfortunate because a foot is far less powerful than the entire body.

Unfortunate traffic

China is home to one of the world’s most populous nations. Given its population of 1.4 billion people and many of them live in relatively small cities like Hong Kong and Beijing, the place can get a little crowded. So yes, this may be a slight exaggeration.

Unfortunate Traffic

Unfortunate Traffic

Here’s a drone image that was taken during “Golden Week,” a period when traffic is, unsurprisingly, particularly bad. The Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Expressway, which has 50 lanes in total, is the route they’re taking. Despite the wide berth of this freeway, traffic was thick and unrelenting in this instance.

Feed those ducks

Vietnam is full of unexpected twists and turns. While it has some of the most beautiful beaches and jungles are known to man, it also has some of the strangest phenomena on the planet. Duck feeding is one of these phenomena, whether you believe it or not. Ducks are being fed en masse at the Ba River in Tuy Hoa City, Vietnam.

Feed Those Ducks

Feed Those Ducks

The village’s duck feeding and duck farming are likely contributing to the many ducks we see here. Around 30 million ducks are raised in this manner each year, and the products of this farming (meat and eggs) are used to feed local villagers and farmers. These ducks are typically raised near rice paddies and other similar areas. In any case, there are plenty of them.

Better look out

We have a drone image of a man who is a little too careless with his life here. Walking in the water while a hammerhead shark swims beneath you is not the wisest thing you could do with your life. Yet, despite this, the man continues to swim—all while others look on, worried.

Better Look Out

Better Look Out

The picture was taken on Florida’s Panama City Beach. Florida has an abnormally high shark population, so this shark was not particularly unusual. Nonetheless, the discovery is concerning, and the fact that it was captured via drone shows the audacious attitude of some Floridians. We would not advise you to attempt the same feat.

Trashed?

Here’s a picture of the Silverdome. The Detroit Lions played their home games here until 2002 when they moved to a new stadium. The stadium has hosted a variety of events, including a Super Bowl and a pope. Despite its long history, the location has been abandoned for some time.

Trashed?

Trashed?

The abandoned stadium was supposed to be turned into a soccer field, but the plans never materialized. As a result, the area has remained unkempt and accumulated trash. This drone shot captured one of the stadium’s worst moments. We hope it will assist in repurposing its once illustrious status.

New Orleans’s Six Flags

In 2005, New Orleans was hit by a major disaster. Hurricane Katrina was a disaster, which submerged large portions of the low-lying city in water. As a result, the tragedy was one of the worst ever to strike the United States. While Six Flags isn’t the worst thing that could have happened, it does reflect the larger tragedy.

New Orleans’s Six Flags

New Orleans’s Six Flags

An abandoned and submerged Six Flags amusement park is depicted in this drone image. Since the initial disaster, the area has been underwater. Unfortunately, the area lacked the resources to bring it back to life. Regardless, the funds would be better spent in other parts of the city.

Mont Saint-Michel

Here’s a drone shot of Mont Saint-Michel for a travel photography contest. The lovely monastery is surrounded by water, so it is cut off from the mainland during high tide. For centuries, the location was regarded as a stronghold as a result of this.

Mont Saint Michel

Mont Saint Michel

The fortress was constructed in the year 708 AD. It all started with a prophetic vision for Bishop Aubert of Avranches. He set out to build the monastery after receiving this vision. Over time, the location became one of the most popular tourist destinations for nomads. The location is still a popular tourist destination, but it is no longer important to international travelers.

Where planes go to die

The majority of us were unaware that planes have a final resting place. There is, in fact, (thanks to drones!). Tucson, Arizona, is where this plane graveyard is located. Around 4,000 planes fly through the airport in total. This aviation graveyard, built after WWII, has been the final resting place for abandoned aerial technology from across the United States.

Where Planes Go To Die

Where Planes Go To Die

The graveyard’s main purpose is to repurpose or part-out old airplanes. The location has kept around $500 million in salvaged parts for this purpose. So if you’re looking for something to replace the worn-out engine in your old Being 757, this is the place to go.

Wreckage

Mayflower, Arkansas, was hit by a tornado in 2014. The aftermath was devastating, tearing down buildings and destroying everything in its path. Some people had flown their drones into the air to take photos of the damage. The images were terrifying, implying significant physical and emotional harm.

Wreckage

Wreckage

Several homes, cars, and empty lots have been decimated by the strong winds depicted here. This heap of broken-down human structures has been chewed up and spit out, demonstrating the sheer power of nature. It sometimes takes a drone to grasp the magnitude of this power. And here in Mayflower, Arkansas, we can see it in its entirety.

When cheetahs attack

Cheetahs are among the most dangerous animals on the planet. They’re small and light, weighing anywhere from 45 to 150 pounds, but they can run at incredible speeds. The cheetah’s average speed is around 60 mph, but they’ve been known to reach speeds of up to 75 mph.

When Cheetahs Attack

When Cheetahs Attack

A drone’s top speed is said to be around 85 miles per hour to give you an idea. However, their average speed is similar to that of cheetahs—70 miles per hour. So when the two go at it, it’s never clear who will come out on top. And that’s exactly what we’ve got here: a drone flying through the Serengeti, about to be attacked.

Hot magma

Drones have been known to fly too close to the object they were attempting to photograph on numerous occasions. For example, one drone attempted to capture the bursting of Old Faithful in Yellowstone. The water exploded so high that it shot the drone down, which was amusing. Unfortunately, park rangers were forced to fish the creature out.

Hot Magma

Hot Magma

We have a drone that did not fly too close to the Sun in this picture. This drone pilot, presumably for the sake of safety, flew their aerial instrument high enough to avoid the heat. As a result, the tumultuous magma inside this active volcano was adequately captured. They’re lucky it didn’t erupt while they were doing so because they could have lost a few thousand dollars.

Basilica of Saint Francis

The lands of Europe are no strangers to fog. The Basilica of Saint Francis is depicted here. The church was constructed in 1228 in Umbria, Italy. In total, there are two churches and a crypt where Saint Francis is entombed. It was built in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi.

Basilica Of Saint Francis

Basilica Of Saint Francis

We were able to see the strange town from above, thanks to the drone footage. Unfortunately, the entire outlet appears to be cut off from the rest of the land due to the fog. Fortunately, this is not the case. You are more than welcome to pay a visit to the location. Back in the day, the location was a well-known tourist destination.

A Farmer Saves His Crops

This drone was able to capture a farmer who was attempting to save his crops. We don’t know if he succeeded, but we do know what he was attempting. In essence, the farmer’s movement about the fire suggests that he is trying to create a fire line.

A Farmer Saves His Crops

A Farmer Saves His Crops

A fire line is a method of putting out a fire’s fuel. Dry crops are used as a source of energy in this area. If the farmer consistently destroys these crops in front of the fire, the fire will run out of fuel before it reaches the line. The hope is that the fire will not spread due to the temporary lack of fuel. While dangerous, the tractor driver made a valiant effort to protect the land.

Children of the Wheat

Most people don’t fly their drones over large swaths of crops because the results are monotonous. However, among those who do, they are occasionally surprised by what they discover. They were surprised to see a scarecrow in this case. While scarecrows are common in farming, most don’t appear to be this creepy.

Children Of The Wheat

Children Of The Wheat

This scarecrow is hunched over as if on the prowl. While we know, it’s not alive, that doesn’t mean we can’t pretend. In any case, this is one of the more bizarre discoveries in the frightening scarecrow industry. If it’s not because of the scarecrow, it’s because someone thought this would make a good drone photo.

The most dense population on Earth

Mexico City is full of unexpected twists and turns. One of the many surprises is that it is the world’s most densely populated region. This photo, taken with a drone, brings this statistic to life in a powerful way. So you might want to cross Mexico City off your list if you’re looking for some peace.

The Most Dense Population On Earth

The Most Dense Population On Earth

Thousands of houses are crammed tightly together across rolling hills and plateaus. The land in Mexico’s capital hub has been claimed by infrastructure. Drone footage once again demonstrates how incredible a city’s sprawl can be. Nevertheless, Mexico City’s large population—all 21 million residents—has adapted to living in close quarters.

Abandoned college

An abandoned college in Abkhazia, Georgia, is depicted here. The location is visibly untidy, with thick overgrowth on the rooves and columns. While the college may appear to be a fun place to visit, it is most likely dangerous due to a lack of maintenance.

Abandoned College

Abandoned College

The discovery is considered a rarity due to the place’s remoteness. However, it was rediscovered thanks to the aerial drone. Perhaps it will be repurposed as a new institution in the future. Only time will tell if this is true. Until then, we’ll have to enjoy this place through the drone’s retrospective lens. If we get too close, mother nature may reclaim us as well.

Cities from above

Drones have the ability to fly very high. An image from Hong Kong, one of the world’s most densely populated metropolises, is shown here. As you can see, there are quite a few tall structures. Surprisingly, it has the world’s highest concentration of skyscrapers.

Cities From Above

Cities From Above

You have the fourth-most densely populated area on Earth within all of these skyscrapers. The population of the city is estimated to be around seven million people. Unfortunately, because these walls are so densely packed, they cause a lot of traffic and pollution. In any case, the city is a must-see for seasoned city travelers.

Time for food

Here’s a rare shot of something entertaining: dolphins battling for food. We see the entire pod fighting over something tasty because dolphins normally hunt in packs. Dolphins usually eat fish, but they have been known to cannibalize other dolphins. We say “no thanks” to that.

Time For Food

Time For Food

Killer whales, a type of dolphin, are tasked with this task in particular. They are predatory, voracious eaters and cannibalistic in nature. From cute penguins to obnoxious seabirds, they eat it all. They are formidable oceanic predators in either case. Their beauty is incomparable.

Crop Circles

Crop circles have long been a source of folklore, film plots, and cowardice in cultures worldwide. Even though many of the alleged alien creations were actually built by lonely farmers or media-crazed teenagers, crop designs have dazzled our imagination. When viewed from a drone, they’re even more impressive.

Crop Circles

Crop Circles

However, most of the circles that haven’t been explained are highly unlikely to have been formed by aliens (sorry). Many ancient societies, for example, could have plotted the path of plows and other agricultural implements to elicit specific images from above. With these things, we must consider parsimony.

Seconds before impact

When you use a drone to film yourself doing cool motorcycle tricks, you risk the drone capturing images of the fall. Unfortunately, that is precisely what occurred in this instance. A biker had attempted to jump a cliff here. He gained air, but he also gained a few new bruises.

Seconds Before Impact

Seconds Before Impact

The photos we get from the things above do not always look the same. Earth’s majestic beauty is on full display, thanks to the drone’s aerial capabilities. This picture of the Icelandic Delta River appears to be a detailed watercolor painting worthy of framing and hanging in a museum. Mother Nature is a true artist.

An Icelandic Delta River

The fall from the bike didn’t appear to be fun (do they ever seem to be?). After gaining about five feet in altitude, the bike descended to the ground in a heap that you wouldn’t want to see. Given that the biker collided with the drone, this heap also included the drone. You might be able to get the drone to fly further if you tried something similar.

An Icelandic Delta River

An Icelandic Delta River

Max Foster, a famous drone photographer (yes, such a job exists), took one of the most famous of these photos. Foster would fly the drone to about 1,500 feet in the air, snap a photo, and bask in the glory. Of course, to navigate the drone to high altitudes, you’ll need mad skills. Nevertheless, foster had mastered the art, leaving some perplexed and others in awe.

A close encounter

Kitesurfing is unquestionably one of the most extreme sports available. On rare occasions, a surfer will be lifted from their surf, dragged to a nearby shore, and, unfortunately, sometimes thrown into a building. They do, however, occasionally come across things that are a little more startling.

A Close Encounter

A Close Encounter

We can see what amazing things can be right here. Isabelle Fabre, a well-known kitesurfing influencer, photographed a drone surfing herself. She later discovered that after reviewing the footage, she encountered a great white shark during this run. While not attacking her, the creature came dangerously close. Fortunately, if she needed it, she could have gotten away.

Bigfoot?

Images from above can sometimes capture things that most of us would consider strange. That is exactly what we have here. While no one knows what it is, many people believe it is something as strange as Bigfoot. In reality, it’s most likely photoshop or a different animal.

Bigfoot?

Bigfoot?

Regardless, the mysterious image was captured by a drone piloted by an Idaho man. His goal was to capture elk and deer in the area. If you really wanted to believe in something like Bigfoot, you’d want something a lot more convincing than this. We can safely dismiss these fantastic claims due to the beast’s diminutive size and the poor quality of the photo.

The Top of a Volcano

You don’t get a bird’s eye view of volcanic activity every day. Likewise, people rarely get a good look inside a volcano and live to tell the tale, given how dangerous the gas emitted by volcanoes is long before the lava even finishes erupting.

The Top Of A Volcano

The Top Of A Volcano

Drones, on the other hand, allow you to see a lot more. We can’t exactly get up close and personal with this volcano outside of military drones. Still, you’re much closer than any sane person would ever be able to get under normal conditions.

Speed Skating

This drone shot was taken in Canada and showed an adventurous skier heading out over a frozen lake. The small dot of a person and their tracks through the light snow help break up the scene’s desolation.

Speed Skating

Speed Skating

This photograph is a masterclass in photography in every way, which is probably why it was chosen as one of SkyPixel’s 2019 competition winners. Every year, they select the best stills and videos taken with drone cameras, and this one certainly deserves to be among them.

Family

This photo was taken off Australia’s east coast and had a simple title. It’s easy to see the mother whale with her calf through the beautiful blue waters. Unfortunately, it’s uncommon to see whales in this area, and when you do, finding the younger generations can be difficult.

Family

Family

The reason for this is that as whales grow older, their tails become more powerful, allowing them to move away from their mothers. As a result, young whales cannot propel themselves out of the water to the same degree as adults. Furthermore, even if they had the ability, their mothers keep a close eye on their children and do not allow them to perform in front of onlookers.

Dunes

This breathtaking image was captured in China’s Badain Jaran Desert, which spans over 19,000 square miles. It is home to some of the world’s tallest dunes. So isn’t it easy to believe when you look at this picture?

Dunes

Dunes

Nature’s undisturbed majesty is something that most people can only imagine seeing. The need to physically go out there and take the picture would have ruined this shot before drones, but now we can capture images like this without imposing on the devastatingly harsh landscape.

Among the Clouds

Many people have described Dubai as a magical city, and this photograph certainly adds to that feeling. With some of the world’s tallest buildings, it’s clear that to see the skyline when the fog rolls in, you’ll need to be able to fly among the clouds.

Among The Clouds

Among The Clouds

During a particularly foggy day, the tip-tops of downtown Dubai can be seen here. The photographer took advantage of the fog banks to create a unique look free of the hustle and bustle of people below.

Space, the Final Frontier

Although we haven’t yet reached the point where we can launch consumer drones into the atmosphere, photographing a rocket in mid-flight during takeoff is still pretty cool. This photographer got a close-up view of a SpaceX rocket as it prepared to take off.

Space, The Final Frontier

Space, The Final Frontier

Let’s hope that we’ll be able to send our drones into space to make recordings one day. True, the government already does this through satellites, and they are unlikely to allow us to do so, but hey! We can dream!

Risky Business

Even just looking at this image sends shivers down our spines! This daredevil climber and photographer paused in the middle of his ascent to capture the moment. He was attempting to climb up Moab, Utah, through a prominent crevice, which was no easy task!

Risky Business

Risky Business

We can’t imagine climbing all the way to the top and then looking down. It makes us dizzy just thinking about it. Furthermore, the drone still has a long way to go from his point of view. He should have made it all the way to the top, hopefully.

Hairpin Turn

In this stunning shot from Morschach, Switzerland, the photographer was undoubtedly looking for a contrast between nature and humanity, but we can’t help but notice that hairpin turn. Imagine driving down the highway, admiring the lush greenery on all sides, when you suddenly need to make a U-turn.

Hairpin Turn

Hairpin Turn

We can’t see any kind of sign or warning of the impending turn, even though it’s fairly high up, and you’re unlikely to see it through the vegetation. So we just hope there’s some kind of barrier in place to keep people from crashing into each other!

Sheep Swarm

It’s difficult to imagine sheep as an invasion, but this image proves it. Whatever has piqued their interest is causing them to veer to the left. There isn’t much else in this picture besides sheep, implying that they’ve driven everything else out of their way.

Sheep Swarm

Sheep Swarm

If you’ve ever been to Ireland, Scotland, or another country where sheep are herded extensively, you know there’s nothing to do but wait for the swarm of sheep to pass, listening to their baaas.
