Boredom And Frustration
Kahn, the lion, chewed his tail out of boredom and annoyance at how he had been treated and forced to live. The tip of his back had completely swollen. He would have fallen ill and died if he hadn’t been saved in time. He also thought he had a bone disorder that made it difficult for him to walk. Keahey explained, “When Kahn arrived, his tail end was completely chewed off, and[ he] was skinny.”

When Kahn first arrived at the rescue center, he was abrasive. The In-Sync group had a hard time communicating with him and supporting him. Because he did not receive enough food when he lived with his previous owner, he became very aggressive when it came to feeding time. Kahn was a dangerous lion in many situations. When feeding or treating him, workers had to exercise extreme caution.
