There are plenty of things that we do on a daily basis that are, simply put, annoying. There’s just no getting around it. Basic chores can take up so much of our time throughout the day. Maybe we just have to rethink the way we do things on a regular basis? Thanks to the internet, these life hacks have come to light and can seriously cut down on the amount of time you waste daily. On top of that, these hacks are just cool.
Keep Dishwasher Pods Out
Do you happen to use conventional dishwasher detergent instead of pods? If you do, then you already have one life hack in your arsenal. Switch to pods and you won’t have to deal with waiting for that last drop of detergent to slowly come out of the bottle.
If you already are using pods, here’s a tip: keep several out of the cupboard and somewhere easily accessible. Think of windowsills and such. This is so you won’t have to go spelunking for one each time you do the dishes.
DIY Hand Sanitizer
If you’re someone who’s been looking for hand sanitizer lately, you’ll know the struggle. We can’t really blame you or anyone who’s been hoarding them, but that doesn’t help those who still need it.
When you’re desperate for some hand sanitizer and don’t want to spend hours scouting stores while waiting for them to restock, you can make your own! Get a bottle of Everclear as well as some aloe juice and mix the two. You can use it just like a hand sanitizer.
There are people who just happen to be forgetful. If you happen to be someone like that, life can be rather difficult and irritating at times. The worst thing is when you’re proactive enough to write down what you need to do but then forget to hold onto the list.
When you’re hanging out at home and need to remember certain things, here’s a little trick for you to use. Write down what you need to do on a small piece of paper and tie it to your hoodie strings. This way, you definitely won’t forget it.
Life-Saving Foil Hack
Aluminum foil is a great way to keep food fresh when you happen to have some leftovers. However, the packaging leaves something to be desired. If you’ve ever gotten someone’s lunch ready, you’ll know just how irritating it is when the entire roll falls out at random and rolls around the kitchen.
It’s rather creepy when you think about it. Anyway, there’s a simple solution to this problem. On each side of the box is a small tab you can push in. They’re meant to keep the roll in place at all times.
Get Herb Scissors
One of the best ways to cut down on work time is having the correct tools for the job. This applies to just about any chore. Especially for those little and annoying tasks like chopping up herbs for a dish you’re making.
Slicing and dicing thyme or rosemary perfectly can be a challenge with a big bulky knife. A pair of herb scissors are going to change the game completely. They have three blades built into them to do the job perfectly.
Don’t Get Caught
Experienced internet users are bound to be familiar with the “I’m not a robot” captchas. You know the drill: you have to click the small box, and then you have to choose between even more boxes that either have traffic lights or not.
The problem is that each box is roughly 10 pixels tall, so it can be impossible to tell what’s inside it at times. If you’d rather skip this step and get straight to the site, there’s a trick for that. Click and hold on the checkbox next to “I’m not a robot”.
We all know the struggle of accidentally mixing up spices. Let’s say you’re making a recipe that calls for salt, so you reach into the cupboard and grab a container full of white powder. Later on, you take a bite of that hard-earned dish, only to find out you used sugar.
To avoid making this kind of mistake, there’s a simple thing you can do. Label all your jars to prevent any confusion in the future. This works a whole lot better than labeling the lids since they can get mixed up.
Organize All Your Cards
This hack won’t work all that well if you have a wallet. However, it can save you a good amount of time in the supermarket if you carry a purse or any kind of other bag with you while shopping. This also applies to you if you have a lot of cards.
By cards, we mean credit cards, gift cards, ID cards, or whatever else you might be carrying around. All you need to organize them all is a key ring and a hole puncher. Punch through the corner of all your cards and then loop them through the ring. It will help keep them all together.
Open A Jar
We all know how difficult opening a jar can be – even impossible at times. That new seal can be such a challenge to break that first time. What’s the point of even having something inside a jar if you can’t get to it in the first place?
Lucky for us all, there’s an easy way to loosen up that jar lid and open it up with no problem. You’ll just need to run some hot water from your sink while holding the jar underneath the stream. This will cause the lid to slightly expand, making it easier to open.
Dry Erase Marker On The Fridge
This might sound somewhat strange at first, but hear us out. Dry erase markers work so well on many different refrigerators. And yes, they erase easily. You can make use of them to keep track of the foods you have and those you might need.
Whenever you finish something in the fridge, all you need to do is erase the item from the list. Or, you can write it down as part of the shopping list. This will make it so much easier to know what you have to buy next time you’re out shopping.
Keep Track Of Your Bobby Pins
A user on Reddit found a great little trick that will help you keep track of all your bobby pins. Those things are way too easy to lose, so this hack is most welcome in our lives. All you have to do is place them on the end of the paper towel holder.
There’s the perfect spot for them right there. This way, you’ll never be able to forget where they are when it becomes a habit. This is definitely a tip that will pay off over time since you won’t have to go out and buy new bobby pins every couple of weeks.
Clean Dried Up Spills And Stains
It’s no surprise when the stovetop becomes completely covered in nasty little stains and crusts. It might not seem like such a big deal as they happen, but over time, these spills can dry up and become so difficult to get off.
There’s an easy method that will help you save yourself from scrubbing. Keep a razor blade somewhere in the kitchen – preferably inside a container to keep it out of harm’s way. Use it to scrape off all those pesky spills.
Peel Hard-Boiled Eggs
Hard-boiled eggs are a great choice for a snack. Aside from being delicious, they’re filled with protein and all kinds of nutrients that are good for you. The only annoying thing about them is peeling them once they’re cooked.
To help you out with that, add a teaspoon of baking soda to the water while boiling the eggs. It won’t affect the taste at all. All it will do it make the shell come off a lot more easily than before. You’ll thank us later.
Don’t Use The Ruler
Hand sewing is an enjoyable hobby to pick up. Not to mention, it can be really useful as well. You don’t have to spend a whole lot of money on a sewing machine, don’t worry. It’ll allow you to fix anything wrong with your clothing, from holes to rips.
One annoying and time-consuming aspect is having to continually refer to a ruler for a small measurement. There’s a clever way around this, however. A Reddit user suggested you use your fingernail instead as a measuring tool.
Another Jar Hack
There are so many life hacks out there to open jars, which makes sense. It’s one of the most common problems we tend to face while at home. It isn’t just a problem while cooking, however. You might be trying to get a button out of a jar and run into the same issue.
This time around, you won’t need hot water. Instead, just grab a spoon. Wedge it between the jar and the lid. Use it as a makeshift lever to pop the lid off. It’s a great solution for when your hand simply isn’t doing the trick.
As simple as it may sound, cracking an egg is somewhat of an art form. Doing it without messing up is rather tricky. You might get some of the egg on the surface you’re working on at times, or, even worse, you might get some eggshell in your dish.
We know that will add a very unwanted crunch to the dish you’re making. It’s practically impossible to get out that bit of shell once it falls in. Take half of the eggshell that’s been cracked and use it to scoop out the smaller piece.
Curb Sweet Cravings
This one is a little niche, but it will still help save your teeth from excessive cavities. If you happen to be someone who loves eating candy while watching your favorite show or surfing the web, this hack is for you.
There’s an easy way to ensure you slow down on your mindless snacking. Just mix in two different candies into the bowl you’ll be using. For example, M&Ms and Skittles. This will basically force you to slow down and take the candies one at a time instead of handfuls.
Lemonade Ice Cubes
While summer is currently coming to an end, that’s no reason to stop drinking lemonade. This life hack will help you address a very specific problem that many of us have had to deal with at one point or another. When we have a large pitcher of lemonade on a hot day, we need to add ice to keep it cold, of course.
If it’s really hot out, the ice will melt. Meaning that the lemonade will be more watery than lemony. It’s not the best if you ask us. Instead of adding normal ice cubes, freeze some lemon or other citrus rinds and use them as ice cubes. It will keep the flavor for much longer.
Stubborn Sweat Stains
Getting sweat stains on our white clothing is rather inevitable, but still frustrating and annoying. Pit stains on a crisp white shirt can ruin the entire thing. All the same, don’t throw out that top just yet.
Even if you’ve washed the shirt multiple times and nothing’s changed, there’s hope. A simple way to get rid of these stains is by mixing equal parts of water and lemon juice. Rub the mixture onto the stains before handwashing the garment.
One Bag Out Of Two
Ziploc bags are something we all tend to take for granted. Normally, we’ll have them in the kitchen and won’t think twice about how convenient they are for us. However, the second we run out, we feel the absence of Ziploc bags.
Whenever you happen to stock up on these bags, it’s a good idea to have different sizes for all kinds of things. All the same, we’ll let it slide if you only have one size. This is mainly because you can actually connect them to create one big bag. Flip one bag inside out before putting it inside the other and there you go!
So Much Ice
When you think about it, modern refrigerators are so amazing. Not only do they keep our food and drink cold or frozen for us, they allow our leftovers to last longer. However, there are times when it’s easy to blame them for not having enough ice.
If you tend to use a lot of ice, there’s an easy way to have more than you could ever use. Remove the ice tray from the fridge. It will keep making ice! It might sound too good to be true, but believe us when we say that it works.
Use Duct Tape
Back to the classic jar dilemma, we have another way to open up a stubborn lid in case all else fails. Hey, don’t blame us if you have a hard time, blame the person who made jars so difficult to open. Anyway, there’s a nice way to open a jar with a little bit of duct tape.
Wrap the piece of tape all the way around the lid and fold it down so it covers it. You might have to use more than one layer to get a good grip on it. Once you have it right, quickly pull it to open the jar lid without any real effort on your end.
Reusable To-Do List
This one might not be the best for grocery lists, but it will work great for chore lists or anything else you might use more than once with the same items on it. It will save you so much time in the long run.
Draw up a list with items on both sides of the paper before putting it on a clipboard. Next, line up binder clips with each item. When you want to check off an item, flip the clip so the metal part will cover the item you completed on the list.
Easy Dog Washing
Giving your dog a bath isn’t always fun. You’ll love it once they’re nice and clean, but the way to get there is a tough one, without a doubt. Dogs don’t typically like to get bathed. For a fair few, water tends to freak them out.
If your dog gets squeamish for bath time, try smearing a little peanut butter on the shower wall. This will distract them perfectly so you can clean them in peace. Believe us, they’ll be too occupied licking up every last drop to notice anything else.
It’s natural to want to store your plastic bags from grocery shopping. It feels like such a wasteful thing to throw them away, but things can start feeling somewhat cluttered once you have too many bags around. There’s a nice way to store them, luckily.
Grab an old Pringles can. Stuff all your bags inside it. They compress a lot more than you may realize and you’ll fit a lot more in there than you thought. After that, you can toss the can into a drawer with much more storage space.
Rubber Bands On A Jar
This is the last jar hack, we promise. One of the reasons jars are so hard to open is because your hand tends to slip when you try and grip the lid. Well, even just a little slip will make it much harder to open.
To prevent this, grab a couple of rubber bands. Place one around the lid and the second around the jar itself. Make sure you leave enough space in between them for you to grab both at once. Then, you’ll be able to twist the lid right off. The bands create more friction, making the process easier for you.
It doesn’t take a genius to know that plugging things into the back of your computer can be really annoying. A lot of the time, our computers are close to the wall, making it difficult to plug anything into them without moving everything around.
Instead of rearranging everything over and over again, use your phone’s selfie camera mode as a small mirror. This will allow you to see what you’re doing rather than feeling around blindly. Before you ask, yes, it works well for plugging cords into TVs as well.
Plastic Bag Dispenser
There are plenty of good methods to deal with extra plastic bags, and this is definitely one of the best ones. It will make them super easy to access. Just make sure to hang onto the next tissue box you’re done with.
Place all the bags inside the box and feed them through the opening just like tissues. You’ll be able to pull out the bags whenever you need them this way. It’s so convenient and you can keep the box right by the door for all those times you find yourself running out to shop.
Clean Old Pots And Pans
If you happen to have been using the same cookware for a long time, it’s most likely that they’ve gotten somewhat gross over the years. All that black crust on the bottom is natural, but still very unpleasant.
Rather than scrubbing the pots and pans with soap for hours on end, fill them with water, a tiny bit of soap, and a few tablespoons of baking soda. Heat them up until they’re boiling and then lower the heat for a bit. This will ensure all the grime at the bottom comes off.
Less Clean Up After Shaving
While shaving over the bathroom sink is ideal since the mirror is right there, it can be a serious pain to clean up after. Aside from it taking a long time to gather all those tiny hairs down the drain, you might clog the sink in the process if you accidentally wash down too much hair.
An easy solution to this problem is taking a plastic bag and putting it over the sink. Once you’re done shaving, all you’ll have to do is take the bag off and throw it away. No more cleaning up after every shave!
Clean Nose Without Tissues
This might sound a little weird, but it works. If you don’t happen to have any tissues with you, give this hack a try. Take a deep breath. Let out all the air and hold your breath. Then, slowly alternate between looking up and looking down. It’s essentially like a weird, slow, nod.
Pinch your nose to ensure you don’t breathe. Keep doing this as long as you can. Eventually, you’ll obviously need to take a breath, but hold out for a bit. When you do take a breath, it will be noticeably clearer.
While dishwashers are great, we can’t help but feel like they don’t always do their job so well. We love the fact that they save us the effort f handwashing everything, but when the Tupperware comes out just as dirty as before, it’s disheartening.
This trick will help with just that. Oftentimes, light dishes like Tupperware can flip over in the washer and end up not getting cleaned properly. Use another dish rack to make a little makeshift cage for the containers to keep them in place. Problem solved!
No matter what, packing is a pain. It doesn’t matter how long your trip is. Folding up all those clothes and arranging them neatly inside a bag only for them to get all wrinkled anyways and look terrible. There’s a nice workaround for that.
Roll all your clothes up instead of folding them. This will save you time on folding while also saving space in your bags. A bonus is that the clothes will wrinkle a whole lot less this way. If you really want to go all out, use a rubber band to keep everything together.
No More Ironing Board
Have you ever woken up and realized that the nice shirt you have to wear for the meeting today is completely wrinkled and looks terrible? Don’t worry, we’re here to save you. As you’d expect, we have a trick for that.
What you need to do is take a shower and hang up the wrinkled top in the bathroom while you’re showering. The steam from the hot water will take care of everything for you without a problem. Now go kill it in that meeting.
Use The Dishwasher Fully
Did you know that the dishwasher can do more than simply wash dishes? Now you know. Anyway, you can save a lot of time on cleaning oddly specific items by tossing them into the dishwasher instead of doing it manually.
Things you can do this with include flip-flops, canvas sneakers, hairbrushes, garden tools, baseball hats, and more. Seriously, who would want to sit with a toothbrush and clean their sneakers when you can just do this instead?
We have to admit that whoever came up with this hack is nothing short of a genius. We can assure you that it wasn’t us. At least we can get a tiny bit of credit for knowing about the hack, though, right?
For those who really need some tweezers but can’t be bothered to look for theirs or buy some, this hack is a game-changer. All you’ll need is three coins. Place them one on top of the other and move the middle one back slightly. After that, you can pinch them to your heart’s content.
This trick is for one of those days when you simply can’t be bothered to do multiple loads of laundry according to colors. Instead of that, take the lazy route without having to worry about it! Who said there are no shortcuts?
Aside from saving you water on multiple loads, you’ll save time sorting and doing different loads, which is a huge plus. Just buy some color-grabbing sheets and throw them into a load of laundry. It will soak up any of the colors that might come off the clothes.
Try Dry Shampoo
If you’ve been using traditional shampoo your whole life, dry shampoo might seem to go against your better judgment. However, we’re here to tell you that it works great. Apply some dry shampoo to your hair if you want to avoid having to wash it as often.
This is especially useful in the mornings when you don’t want to get up early for a long shower. Just keep in mind that it’s best to use about 24 hours before you’re going to wash your hair in the shower again.
If you happen to accidentally superglue something to something else, you’ve probably learned the hard way why it’s called Superglue. It’s practically impossible to unstick something that’s been superglued.
For instance, if you glued one finger to another while working, you’re most likely not having a great time. To cut through the adhesive, pour some salt onto the glue followed by water. We don’t know why, but this will make it easy to pull the things apart. It will definitely save you time.
Clean Your Wardrobe
Having a closet that’s a mess isn’t just annoying to look at, it can end up costing in precious time. When you get up for school or work, you’ll need to pick out what you’re going to wear. This can be a challenge when your closet is a mess.
Organize your clothes by color to make your life easier. Not to mention, it’s also a good idea to separate your closet by item type (t-shirts away from dress shirts, etc.). Now, when you roll out of bed in the morning, it won’t be as challenging to get dressed.
Moving is never a fun experience, that’s for sure. It might be nice once you’re actually at your new place, but the process of packing up everything you own and taking it somewhere else is such a pain to do.
Here’s a nice little way to save yourself time and effort packing up and moving your clothes. Just grab a garbage bag and wrap it around the clothing before tying the strings around the hangers. They’ll stay organized making it easier to unpack later on.
Cook Large Portions
This isn’t so much a life hack but more of a common sense thing. All the same, we wanted to include it since it makes such a big difference. Here’s what you should do: when you happen to be cooking food, make more. That’s it.
Seriously, though. Making large portions of food will save you on kitchen prep, clean up time, and cooking time throughout the whole week. You can make a large stir fry, a bunch of smoothies, several sandwiches, or anything else and save yourself the cooking for the next couple of days.
Prepare Clothes The Night Before
You might already be doing this, but just in case you’re not, here’s another way to save time when you’re getting ready in the morning. Take a few minutes the night before to lay out the clothes you’re going to wear – including all the last minute items like shoes and accessories.
This is especially helpful if you aren’t a morning person and tend to struggle with deciding on what to wear. If you happen to be feeling extra motivated, you can try planning a whole week or month’s worth of outfits.
It doesn’t matter how unique your luggage is. Chances ate that someone else will have the exact same suitcase. This can be really annoying when you’re waiting at the luggage claim area and see four other suitcases that are just like yours.
There’s a simple way to quickly find your belongings. All you need to do is tie a brightly-colored fabric around the handle, preferably in a bow to make it stand out even more. This will allow you to spot your suitcase from a mile away.
Prevent Doors From Latching
In most cases, we want our doors to lock or close properly. However, there are times when we need doors to stay open. If you’ve happened to move a large and heavy piece of furniture, you’ll understand this need.
The next time you want to avoid having to reopen the same door over and over again, try this rubber band trick. You can use one thick large rubber band or just use a bunch of smaller ones to get the same result.
You might have already heard of trick to make your shoes waterproof with beeswax. However, the catch is that it required a double boiler and diligent monitoring in order to make sure you don’t burn the wax.
Instead of doing all that, coat your shoes with a layer of raw beeswax. After that, grab your blow dryer and put it on high and use it over the surface of the shoes. Do this until the shine is almost completely gone. All you’ll have to do then is allow the shoes to cool down before wearing them next.
Don’t Lose Business Cards
It can be a struggle to keep track of all those random business cards you have. They’re normally thrown haphazardly into a wallet or a drawer, but when you actually need one of them, you can never find it.
Next time around, use your phone to take a photo of the card as soon as you get it. After that, keep a folder of all the cards on your phone so it will stay organized in one place. You won’t have to dig around the house to find a card again!
Iron Shirts Faster
If you’re like most of us, you find ironing to be one of the peskiest chores. We don’t blame you for this, we’re all in the same boat. Until you’re done ironing, you’re practically chained to that ironing board.
There’s no shortage of ironing hacks out there, but this one is the easiest we’ve found. Next time you have to iron a pile of button-down tops, flip them inside out before you start ironing. Then, you’ll be able to glide over the buttons instead of maneuvering your way around them.
Perfectly Placed Frames
If you happen to have a lively child or pet that loves jumping and running around, you’ll be familiar with the struggle of keeping picture frames level. They tend to slip out of place on a regular basis in this case.
To avoid having to reposition these frames repeatedly, place a dot of hot glue on the back corners of the frame. Then hang the picture as usual. Other than holding the frame in place, that small lift the hot glue will give prevents the walls from getting scratched.
See If Batteries Are Good
You tend not to think about batteries until you need a new one. That’s why we spend a significant amount of time looking through all the batteries we have to see which ones might still be good to use.
Instead of spending all that time rummaging, just hold the battery a couple of inches away from a flat surface with the negative side facing down. Drop it and see if it lands in a standing position. If it does, it’s still good. If the battery falls over as soon as it hits the surface, it normally means it’s dead.
Hold Up Your Cookbook
It might seem excessive to invest in a cookbook stand, but having a cookbook propped open off the counter is a serious time saver when you’re cooking. Especially if you’re in the middle of making a complex recipe.
However, you don’t have to buy a special stand when you have pants hangers laying around the house. In addition to keeping the book open, the hanger can be hung from your cabinet handle. That will also save you some precious counter space.
Water Bottle Lantern
Luckily, power outages are rather rare for most of us. However, when they do happen, it leaves us with nothing other than candles and flashlights as our only options for light. It can be pretty annoying at the end of the day.
It’s especially annoying when you have to get work done but have nothing but a dull glow from that one candle you happen to have. Instead of suffering through that, grab a filled water bottle, a small drinking glass, and a mini flashlight. With these items, you’ll be able to assemble a DIY lantern that will diffuse light in a much more effective way.
Prop Your Keyboard
When using an older keyboard for your computer, there’s a good chance that the feet at the bottom have fallen off or broken a long time ago. This might not matter if you’re a fast typer. However, it can still be quite annoying.
That small lift allows you to see the keys a lot better which in turn improves your typing speed. To replace the feet of the keyboard in just a few minutes, pinch off the metal from a couple of binder clips. Place them inside the holes that used to hold the feet and viola! Good as new!
Quickly Chilled Drinks
There are two options when you’ve forgotten to put your sodas in the fridge: either put them in the fridge for an hour or put it in the freezer and risk the bottles exploding after being left for too long.
Well, we’re here to tell you that there is a perfectly safe trick that will allow you to enjoy your cold drink in no time. Wet a couple of paper towels so they’re damp but not dripping. Wrap them around your soda and put it in the fridge for 15-20 minutes.
Pancake Mix In A Bottle
Pancakes are so irresistible. However, making them can take forever if you haven’t perfected the technique. Instead of struggling with a ladle for an hour, use this trick. Pour the batter into a squeeze bottle.
Ketchup bottles are the best choice, but any squeeze bottle will do. You can also use this tip to make your pancakes into all kinds of fun shapes since you’ll be able to control them more. Think of holidays – you can make heart-shaped ones for Valentine’s Day, or Christmas trees! Get creative!
Neat Beach Bag
For the most part, beach bags tend to be large and floppy. It’s ideal for carrying everything from sunscreen to romance novels and towels. However, beach bags typically lack pockets and compartments, so smaller items like car keys can easily get lost inside the mess.
Before your next beach day, clean out a lotion bottle and cut off about an inch from the top. This will create the perfect little organizer for all your small items. Store your car keys, phone, and cash inside without losing them all.
Muffin Tin Tray
Everyone loves the casual and relaxed feeling of a barbecue, but setting one up and keeping track of everything can be a major challenge. You might just end up spending the entire time refilling things instead of spending time with your guests.
While we can’t make everything go perfectly at the next event, we do have a tip that will help you organize the condiments. Put everything into one large muffin tin! It will make it so much neater and easier to track. This way, your guests will know exactly what they’re getting.
Most of us normally have a whole bunch of keys that we have on us at all times. They tend to all look very alike, if not exactly the same, which can complicate things. There’s a simple way to make sure you don’t waste time finding out which key is the one you need.
Buy a few different colors of nail polish and paint the tops of the keys in different colors! This is especially effective if you match the color you use to the doorknob decor. For instance, if a doorknob has blue detailing, paint the key blue as well.
Shoe Racks For Cleaning Supplies
Most of us crouch down to reach our cleaning supplies whenever we need them. We normally store them all in a cupboard somewhere under a sink. It can be a bit of a pain to find what you need if you ask us.
It turns out that there’s a quick and efficient way to store cleaning supplies that will allow you to see everything at once. Just get a hanging shoe rack that can be hung up in a doorway and get to work. On top of keeping things organized, this method can help keep the dangerous chemicals away from kids and pets.
We couldn’t stop at just one ice cube hack – it’s simply not enough. There are so many other fruits to choose from, after all! We’ve seen some cool frozen fruit cubes made from diced kiwis, strawberries, and the like.
Why spend time cutting up fruit when you can just freeze a bunch of grapes? Put them in a bowl at your next gathering and allow your guests to enjoy the cold non-watered down drinks. By the way, the grapes also make a refreshing snack once you’re done with your drink.
Keeping a work desk organized is a challenge in itself, but when you add in a bunch of cables and adapters, it’s over. They’re all plugged into the same outlet, tangled up in a big mess… It can be difficult to tell which cords go with which device – especially when they look the same.
Instead of leaving all the wires on the ground, use some binder clips to keep them in full view at all times. If you want to make things even more efficient, use a permanent marker to label the clips with the names of the devices.
Strawberries are, without a doubt, one of nature’s most delicious snacks. However, cutting off the stems on each one can be time-consuming and tiring. Well, we have some good news for you – you can put down the knife. Grab a drinking straw instead.
All you have to do is place the end of the straw on the bottom of the strawberry. Push upward to pop off the stem in one easy movement. This clever hack will have your bowl of strawberries ready in no time at all.
Are you a heavy sleeper? Do you find that you sleep through your phone’s alarm no matter what you do or how loud it is? Maybe you’re looking for a way to break the habit of pressing the snooze button each morning.
Before you go out and buy a new alarm clock, try this: put your phone inside a drinking glass right before going to bed. What the glass will do is amplify the volume of the phone, making the alarm much louder than usual. It will be impossible to sleep through.
Retrieve Tiny Things
It’s so annoying when you drop an earring or some kind of tiny fixture you need to complete the project you’re working on. If you think it rolled under the furniture, getting it back might not be as quick as reaching underneath.
In this case, tie a sock or stocking over the end of the vacuum hose. Turn it on and run the hose under the furniture. The suction will pull out the tiny little item, but the sock or stocking will keep it from getting sucked up into the vacuum itself.
Sealed Plastic Packaging
A lot of things we buy tend to come in those sealed plastic packages that are impossible to open. While some of us resort to using kitchen shears or scissors, that might not be the best idea. Doing so can dull or damage their blades.
There’s another common kitchen tool that you should be using instead: a can opener. Just place it on the edge of the package and use it as you would while opening a can. Aside from it being a quick fix, it’s much safer than using something like a knife.
You might have heard about this time-saving hack if you happen to live in an urban area. All the same, it can save anyone time and energy when they have a lot of groceries to haul into the house after a shopping trip.
Aluminum carabiners might be used mostly by campers and hikers, but we’re here to tell you that you should go out and buy a couple. They’re perfect for holding plastic bag handles. Just imagine how much time this will save you if you live in a walk-up or have a parking spot that’s far from your house.
Here’s another great ironing tip for when you need to save as much time as possible. A lot of times, we find wrinkles in just one part of a garment, like on the collar or on the end of a sleeve. Would you take out the ironing board just for that?
Instead of doing that, plug in your hair straightener and use it to smooth smaller wrinkles. Just be careful and make sure your straightener’s plates are clean before plugging it in. A wrinkle-free collar won’t impress anyone if it’s stained with hair products.
You might be thinking that you’re doing a great job of organizing your T-shirts. However, do you waste time every morning looking through all those stacks to find the one you want? That’s most likely due to the fact that you’re not stacking your shirts vertically.
As you can see, stacking your shirt this way will allow you to see all the shirts at a glance. This system works especially well for kids clothing or if you tend to reach for the same five shirts every single time.
We’ve mentioned organizing cords at your desk, but what about those spare cords or the ones you don’t use on a daily basis? These normally get stashed away in a drawer or box and end up in a tangled mess that you’ll have to eventually unfurl.
This hack will keep all those cords nice and neat. Grab some toilet paper rolls or cut a paper towel roll into a few pieces. Place them standing up in a box side by side and glue them all down with some hot glue. There you go – you now have an organized box to store all your wires in.
Unblock A Shower Head
Hard water has mineral deposits that typically leave all kinds of buildup in the bathroom. In fact, it can cause blockages in your shower head which will add time to you rinsing out all that shampoo and soap.
If you want an easy, no-scrub solution to unblock the showerhead, you’re in the right place. Pour some vinegar into a ziplock bag. Tie the bag around the showerhead so it’s sitting in the vinegar solution. Leave it overnight and then take off the bag in the morning.
It can be such a pain to find the end of a roll of tape, especially if you’re using clear tape. This might not be a problem if you have a tape dispenser. However, buying one might seem like a waste of time if you don’t use tape often.
There’s no need to do that if you have some paper clips lying around. Stick one onto the sticky side of the tape before sealing it in place. This will help you see exactly where the end is without fumbling around looking for it.
Air Holes In Garbage Cans
We can’t believe we haven’t thought of this earlier, but better late than never, right? Since we’re used to seeing public trash cans with holes at the bottom, it’s strange we didn’t know about this. Anyways, this might sound weird, but it works.
Have you ever had trouble taking your garbage bag out of the can? The reason for this is the suction. It keeps the bag anchored to the bottom and sides, even when you aren’t overloading the garbage can. To solve this issue, drill some holes along the bottom to let all the air out.
Whoever has had to light candles on a birthday cake knows the struggle of lighting candles with matches. If you’re sick of going through a whole box of matches before being able to sing ‘Happy Birthday’, make sure to always have some raw spaghetti on hand.
All you need is a single noodle. It will burn long enough to light multiple candles without burning the tips of your fingers. Additionally, it’s the safest method to light those tall candles in skinny jars.
Holding a nail in place with your fingers can be a very frustrating experience. Especially when you keep dropping the nail before you can lodge it into the wall properly. If you want a faster way to do this, use a clothespin.
This is a foolproof way to hold the nail in place without risking your fingers in the process. This will keep your fingers away from the metal end of the hammer. The best part? It works just as well on every kind of surface.
Everyone knows that shopping lists are essential for saving time. However, that’s only true if you have time to make a list in the first place. If you’re on a tight schedule and need to go shopping for groceries, there’s a list hack you’ll need.
Just open your fridge and freezer and take pictures of them with your phone. You’ll have a sure way to know what you have in your fridge without forgetting anything or buying doubles accidentally.
Get Crumbs Out Of A Keyboard
We all know we shouldn’t eat at our desks, but it tends to happen anyways a lot more often than we’d like to admit. While we should clean our keyboards more often than we do, it simply doesn’t happen.
For a quick cleanup without having to go anywhere, keep a spare toothbrush in your desk drawer. This way, you’ll be able to use it to quickly clean up the keyboard without having to break out the cleaning supplies.
A lot of us head out the door in the morning with a bottle of ice-cold water in hand. Putting some ice inside will keep it cold for as long as possible, but that requires filling the ice cube tray the night before.
To save yourself some time, fill your bottle halfway with water before laying it sideways inside the freezer. In the morning, fill the bottle the rest of the way to get instantly freezing cold water that will last for hours.
Keep Pizza Hot
Delivery might be awfully convenient, but it’s definitely cheaper to just pick up the pizza on your own on the way home. If you’re stuck in traffic, the pizza will be cold by the time you make it home to eat it.
If you don’t have the patience to wait for hot pizza when you already wasted all that time driving, turn up the car seat warmer on the passenger’s side. Doing so will keep the pizza nice and warm until you get home.
Fill Buckets Easily
You’ve probably tried squeezing a bucket under the kitchen faucet more than once in an attempt to fill it up. Even if you happen to be lucky enough to have a high-mounted faucet, the bucket can be too wide to fit in the sink.
As you might have guessed by this point, there is a trick to save you a lot of time and energy. Take a pool noodle and attach it to the end of the tap. Then, place the opposite end in the bucket before turning on the water.
DIY Phone Stand
It’s so annoying when your phone keeps falling over when you’re trying to watch a video. With this hack, that problem will soon become a thing of the past. It might sound too good to be true, but hear us out.
All you need to do is tie two zip ties on either side of the phone. Just make sure that the zip tie heads are near the edge of the phone with the heads facing down. There you go! You now have a hands-free stand to watch videos as much as you want.
