A Pregnant Waitress Burst Into Tears After A Strange Encounter At The Diner

As if it was any other day for her, this pregnant waitress began her shift at work, but she did not know that anything would happen during the day that would change her life and make her break into tears. What could have happened to this young woman? Keep reading to see what happened in her day.

Struggling More Than Usual

It was more of a struggle today than usual. During her third trimester, she grew really big. She had heavy feet and an achy hip, so she waddled over, picking up the bill at the table with the plates. The officer had already left, though.

Straight To Her Manager.

As she opened the folder that contained the check, she saw a note that the police officer had written and left there. She struggled to contain herself and immediately burst into tears as she ran towards her manager right away.

Saving For The Baby

Although Courtney Cadigan had been pregnant for eight months already, she still worked shifts that she could do at the Lamp Post Diner. She wanted to be financially stable as she was always looking ahead and wanted nothing more but the very best for the arrival of her baby.

Every Cent

As she was about to become a mother, she knew the value of hard work and saving money for her kid. Every cent that she earns would count for what was about to come. We are all aware as to how costly children are!

Difficult Work

There is no doubt that being a waiter or waitress is a hard job. A lot of people are not aware as to how long these workers stand on their feet for hours at a time while being paid with low amounts of money. The fact that a lot of customers do not tip enough makes it even worse.

Not A Regular

The diner had regular customers, including policemen who would come to have a quick snack before they start their work. Courtney was already familiar with them as she had served them a lot before, but there was one particular officer whom she did not recognize that day.

Quite Surprising

As the police officer left the diner, he left the bill on the table with a note attached for Courtney. This was a bit surprising as Courtney had never received any notes like this before. Needless to say, she was not quite ready for what the note contained.

Thoughts Racing Through Her Mind

The day for her child to be born is getting near, which was on April Fools. The pregnant waitress was worried as to how she would make ends meet. The fact that her relationship with her child’s father ended also made the situation even worse.

All Alone

She knew she had to live the life of a single mom. All of these thoughts continued to run in her mind as the cop entered the diner and sat down by her section. She went over to welcome the customer to the diner and brought him a menu.

Something Was Up

She was familiar with the police offers from the Vorhees Township Police Department as they were regular customers of the diner that she works at. But it was different this time, the police officer who entered the diner was not someone she knew, which is why she immediately realized that something was up.

Even Stranger

Courtney tried not to put much thought into what she was thinking as she approached the officer to take his order, just like what she would normally do with their customers. But from that point on, the encounter became even weirder.

Her Worries

Courtney was quite worried about the fact that her ex had not been in contact with her for a while. She wanted her ex to be involved with their child’s life as much as possible even though their relationship did not end in good terms.

Putting On A Smile

To put it simply, Courtney’s ex did not give her the respect that she deserved. However, now is not the time for her to worry about that, so she took out her pad, put on a beautiful smile, and took the mysterious person’s order.

Slightly Uncomfortable

Courtney felt a bit uncomfortable by the presence of the mysterious cop that had entered the diner that she was working at. She was certain that this is the first time that she had seen him, and now that she was talking to him, she carefully studied his face, trying to place him.

Stony-Faced Officer

Maybe the officer was not someone who is from the area, or he might probably someone who was not a frequent customer of the diner. Regardless, all Courtney thought of was that whoever this mysterious person maybe, she hoped that the cop was not related to her ex nor was she involved in any trouble. However, the police officer’s stoic look only worsened her fears.

An Awkward Situation

In a desperate attempt in trying to engage in a conversation with the man, Courtney tried to talk to him about the weather, his order, or anything. Regardless, her attempt to engage in a conversation with the police officer was futile as the man only nodded and gave her a tight smile, shutting her down.

An Odd Order

The man ordered a green salad and a glass of water. Courtney can only think of nothing but relief as she was finally able to get out of the awkward situation, but she knew that the police officer was watching her with intent as she made her way into the kitchen.

Becoming Busy

As Courtney passed through the swing doors, she saw that the eatery was starting to have a lot more people inside. She noticed a couple seated at the booth behind the officer. She immediately made her way to the couple and introduced herself.

A Simple Explanation

The couple immediately saw Courtney’s tired eyes and baby bump right away. Courtney immediately dismissed the couple’s concern with an explanation. She also recalled saying that she told the people behind the police officer that it was her baby and that she was about to go out of work soon.

Watching Her Every Move

The couple warmly congratulated Courtney for her baby before they stated their orders, without being aware that the nearby police officer was listening to everything that they were saying. As Courtney brought the mysterious cop’s salad and served other customers, he watched her even more.

Asking For The Check

The unknown cop ate his salad as fast as he could and immediately finished his water. After delighting in his meal, the cop raised his hand for the check, in which his order totaled to $9.00, and Courtney brought the bill to him.

Filling Up

The diner was starting to have a lot of people inside, and because of that, she was off once more. She rushed to get the orders of the diners out on time, which is why she was not able to see the mysterious police office leave the place. Courtney continued to carry out her duties.

The Note

As Courtney opened the leather folder, she found the right amount of cash in there to pay for the meal that the cop had ordered. However, she also found a note which made her feel weak. The note written on the bill was aimed towards her!

What Was The Problem?

Courtney recalled that the mysterious man may have overheard her conversation with the other customers. Was he shaming her for working while pregnant? Or did he think that service was very slow as Courtney could not move around as much?

Courtney took the note and carefully read it. She was shocked by what she had read! The note on the bill read: “Enjoy ur 1^st. you will never forget it.” Attached to the note was $9 in change. It was very nice of the man to wish her luck don’t you think?

In Disbelief

As she looked at how much the tip was, she almost fell over! She was shocked by the man’s generosity towards her, and her pregnancy hormones were raging! She was not able to contain herself and rushed to her manager as she was crying.

Distraught Employee

The pregnant waitress miserably failed in trying to contain her tears. Courtney immediately went into the backroom as she was holding the check, and when her boss saw that her employee was not in a good state, she assumed that something might have gone wrong.

Was It A Mistake?

Was it a mistake? Perhaps the mysterious man had trouble with his eyesight and thought that his bill was a lot more than it was. Did he perhaps mean to write $10.00 instead of $100? Though the two scenarios seem unlikely, Courtney found it hard to believe that the police officer gave her a tip of $100.

No Communication

Courtney added to her statement saying, “We didn’t even talk. I brought him his menu, he ordered a salad and I got it for him. I was telling the people at the table behind him that it was my first baby.” The man must have overheard and decided to help Courtney out a bit.

Out Of Breath

After a few minutes of trying to cool down and collect her thoughts, Courtney explained everything.  However, the fact that the police officer a $100 tip still was not sinking in her mind! She really could not believe what had just happened as she earned way less than $100 in an entire day.

Courtney found it hard to believe that someone was willing to help her out like this, especially someone that she does not even know! She was well aware that stories like these are real and can happen to anyone, but she always saw them on the news as it happened to other people. She thought that it was impossible to happen for a small-town girl like her… or so she thought!

Courtney told the Gloucester Township Patch, “It’s truly a blessing to come across people like him and I’m forever thankful for that.” After she had recovered, Courtney has thought of looking for the officer to thank him. Was it possible?

Courtney rushed to the parking lot, hoping that the stranger had not left yet, but she was a tad bit disappointed to find out that the man was not there anymore. She was thinking of how she could find him, as she was not even able to know of the kind man’s name.

When her work was over, she rushed back home and immediately phoned the Voorhees Township Police Department. She wanted to look for a generous officer. She also told her father, Brian, what had happened during her shift at the diner.

Courtney’s father was also surprised by the very generous tip, which is why he posted a picture on Facebook of the note that her daughter received during her shift. Brian wrote, “What a wonderful person to not only leave a VERY generous tip but a lovely message too”.

Courtney’s dad continued, “It’s not the amount, it’s the humanity of it,” he also added, “He saw she was struggling and a young girl. She was working in a diner while pregnant, standing with that kind of weight on her, and it was his way of saying, ‘I understand your struggle.’”
